Job title:                           Communications Intern

Location:                          Ankara, Turkiye

Full/Part-time:                Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week)

Duration:                          3 months (1 February 2023 to 30 April 2023, with possibility of extension up to 6 months)

 

The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Analyst, the intern will support the visibility and communications activities of UNFPA Turkiye CO especially in visual/written content creation of the website and social media accounts of UNFPA Turkiye.

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

You would be responsible for:

The intern will be:

  • Assisting in publishing prepared social media content on UNFPA Türkiye social media accounts,
  • Assisting in translating and editing web articles, stories, press releases in Turkish and English,
  • Assisting in generating social media content in Turkish and English,
  • Supporting designing visuals for social media,
  • Assisting in creating captions for social media and website in Turkish and English,
  • Assisting in maintaining and updating existing digital asset management system,
  • Assisting the UNFPA Turkiye Communications Team during physical events,
  • Assisting in preparing donor requested report(s),
  • Performing any other relevant tasks, as required.

 

Qualifications:

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

 

Interns should also meet the following requirements:

  • Expressed interest in the field of communications
  • Demonstrable experience in social media communications
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English
  • Full computer literacy (Microsoft Applications)
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite Programs and Canva
  • Ability to adapt to new environment and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds

 

Learning Elements:

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

  1. Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies.
  2. Understand UNFPA programmes and communication activities
  3. Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
  4. Create content for UNFPA’s website and social media accounts
  5. Manage data, documents, correspondence and reports
  6. Write and formulate substantive documents
  7. Network with UN colleagues
  8. Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting

 

Financial Aspects:

Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. However, they receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, if not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation, or scholarship programme. The amount of the stipend varies according to the duty station. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
